I agree. Another major aspect to respect, integrity, openness, caring and fairness is to acknowledge workers as mort than just their workplace personna. Outside of work, some employees are engaged in senior care, in spousal care, in child care and in some cases a mix of these realities.
A family friendly workplace that offers support for people for all aspects of their lives is one that will prosper as staff will know that the company cares and understands.

It's easy to say make time for family and family is important. It's not so easy to do and sometimes we get bogged down with work and then feel guilty about time not spent with family and that sucks our energy. It's a negative and self-defeating spiral.
Brockway's list is practical, helpful and doable. Parents who follow these tips will find themselves energized as they spend time with the kids, enjoy that time, reduce both stress and guilt and have a much healthier home life. They will also show up at work ready and willing to be productive and focussed on the task at hand.

I've been with my current employer only a few months but the toxicity in the workplace is palpable! Morale is so low & tension is off the charts. Until now, I'd never worked in such an oppressive environment. People are overworked, underpaid, disrespected & unappreciated. Top management has taken from staff every little perk imaginable.

I imagine this work environment akin to what existed when the rights & needs of employees were a mere 'blip' on the burgeoning Human Resources radar.

I've never been one to 'jump ship' but, after reading this article, I realize I need to plan to get out sooner rather than later.

Great piece. It's a new tide that we're looking to India for management philosophies. In the end, the long term holistic view wins the day. In health, in business and in life. I think this is core to their approach. Their destiny sure looks different to our short term fuse.

Hi Doug,
I found this funny in a sad kind of way......
There is NO WAY that the huge educational dinosaur I work for would EVER think of 360 deg reviews.
Perish the thought!
